Outsourcing to Brazil

Brazil promises to be a good source for outsourcing, although it is difficult to find qualified vendors.  It is likely to be a bit more expensive than developers in other parts of the world.  Brazil’s culture is similar to western cultures. In addition it has efficient telephone communications, and world-class buildings and facilities.

Working with outsourcers in Brazil   - Pluses

Reasonable costs and time zone proximity, for example Rio de Janeiro is only one to three hours different from New York seasonally, are attractive factors for selecting an outsourcing vendor in Brazil. Experience with open-source technologies seems good. Many companies are at CMM Level 4 or Level 5. Some companies were engaged in CMMI.

Brazilian software programmers are typically more expensive than Indian or Chinese programmers. There is also a much smaller pool of fluent English speakers.  Programming for scientific applications seems limited.
